MEET YOUR CREW
Captain: Alan (Al) Owen
Chef: Eleanor Thomson
Al was born in South Africa. A country with an agreeable climate, warm water and therefore it should come as no surprise that at the age of 8 he was a regular at the local yacht club. That came in the form of racing in Optimist dinghies and so began his long association with boats and with water sports.
He moved to Ireland in 1997 and spent the next 8yrs as an outdoor instructor. Disciplines covered included sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and paddle sports. Archery, indoor climbing, orienteering, mountain biking and swimming.
As a slight distraction he spent 13yrs as a police officer where he honed his skills in the art of dealing and communicating with people and their problems before returning to the world of boating.
Al has competed at national and international level in both dinghy and keelboat racing , and represented his country in kayak surfing at World Championships.
Offshore racing in J 24’s had whetted his appetite to pursue a career in a maritime setting and he enrolled on a Professional Offshore Yachtmaster course . He then worked as Flotilla Lead and bareboat Skipper for Sunsail, Dubrovnik, Croatia, before setting his sights on the Caribbean and fulfilling a lifelong dream to captain a yacht in paradise .
When at home you'll find him hunting surf along the West coast of Ireland, either on a board, windsurfer or more recently his wing foil.
Eleanor grew up in the small seaside town of Dover in the Southeast of England. She grew up with a great appreciation of the outdoors, nature and adventure. Her mother, born and raised in Africa, and her father, having a military background, she has lived and worked internationally. As such, trotting round the world on her own adventure is something that has come very naturally to her!
At nineteen she left the UK to study Mandarin at Nanjing University in East China, a real-life highlight and a great food tasting opportunity. Since graduating Eleanor has travelled most of Far and South East Asia and has worked in China, organising cultural programmes for westerner students - a very rewarding role. She is passionate about authentic experiences and the best of local food and culture.
During the pandemic, she took a corporate travel job in London. It gave her a detailed understanding of the travel and hospitality industry, however she needed to get back to the frontline. She was keen to do something that combined all that she loves most; cooking, meeting great people, good weather, and an adventure! Since starting her dream job, she has worked as a chef on private charters in Greece and Croatia, and now the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Amazing Teamwork
You two were amazing!
Amazing teamwork....
Eleanor, your food was so DELICIOUS and beautifully prepared - ***** 5 Stars. I appreciate you not being scared to make the kids eat out of theri norm. Ansley has found some new favorite foods because of you!
Al. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to teach and explain the captain ways. Cason was in absolute awe of you the entire week! I'm sure he will be talking about you for years :)
Thank you guys for everything.
Tough To Put Into Words - Just Incredible
Tough to put into words just how incredible our week was aboard Sweet Anne Marie.
The weather wasn’t cooperating our first two days but Alan (captain) put a great plan together and kept us in great spots to ride out the wind a bit. Then from there he constantly had us on the move and kept us in the best spots. Perhaps the biggest thing was how he took our 8yr old boy under his wing for the week and made this trip something he will remember for years to come.
Our chef Eleanor was an absolute rock star for us, every meal was amazing and even our picky children devoured everything. She amazed us all week, every meal seemingly outdid the last one. She also made time for our kids and again made it so enjoyable for everyone on board.
This crew had basically become family by the end of the trip and I would highly recommend them for a group of friends or families bringing children. These two love what they do and it showed with how they treated our family.

Lifelong Memory
It's hard to know what to expect when you are first timers for a week long sail with a crew you have never met before. - a multitude of scenarios could unfold. As optimistic as we were (It's for sure our personality trend) that we would have an incredible experience. Al and Ella exceeded beyond anything we could have imagined.
Attention to detail whether in navigation or meal prep and delivery was superb - but even more importantly was the companionship and camaraderie.
You are both a joy to be with and will forever consider you friends.
Thank you so much for being a part of a lifelong memory for all of us.

How did you find your crew? Were they friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating?
The crew was outstanding, Within minutes Eleanor and Alan seemed like old friends. They were friendly and interactive, very accommodating to Kat's special needs after her fall before boarding. Their skills were apparent as they made everyday look effortless. After a bad charter experience last year, this crew restored our faith in the charter vacation.
Was the yacht comfortable, clean and well ventilated? What was your
favorite aspect of the yacht?
The yacht was the most luxurious we have been on. Neat, spacious and loved the modern heads. The fly-bridge was our favorite.
Was the food enjoyable and well presented? Did the chef customize the
menu to your preferences?
The food was incredible and very well presented. It was obvious Eleanor was talented and took pride in her cooking. Many pictures were taken. Our only preference issue was with beer selection which was quickly corrected.
Did you enjoy the itinerary and the area you sailed?
We did enjoy the itinerary and Alan made adjustments to have the AC worked on one day that did not interfere with our fun. He was also receptive to our requests for a couple of early morning sails that were fabulous.
Can we share your feedback with the yacht?
Yes, I hope they know how appreciative we are for their efforts.
Warm and Sincere

We were welcomed aboard with open arms. The smiles were warm and sincere. The world was ours and they had the key that opened it to us. They warmly participated in all our adventures.
Thank you! Thank You! Thank You!
Wow! What a week!
Wow, what a week! Al and Ella made these past few days unforgettable - from the delicious, fresh food, to the excellent company. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Sweet Ann marie is such a beautiful boat and took us around the USVI and BVI in safety and comfort. We enjoyed every moment; morning dips in the crystal clear waters, lime in the coconut cocktails at sunset (thank you Ella!), turtle spotting, game nights, adventures on shore..... the list could go on forever.
THANK YOU Ella nd Al..... We hope to stay in touch and hopefully travel together again sometime. You've both been an absolute joy to share our vacation with. :)

The weather was nice and the boat was super smooth. We didn’t want to leave. Charles knew exactly where to take us and we had a wonderful time!

We love you! Thank you for the most wonderful time in the BVI's! Your energy and the love you shared was such a gift! The experience was a dream come true! What we shared was very special and both of you were a part of it. We truly enjoyed one night with Charles in Cruz Bay and the incredible meals onboard that Eleanor made. The best chef and captain ever!
What an incredible time
What an incredible time. Everything from morning til night was perfect. The caves, the conversations, swimming, kayaks, and so much to see. The best parts were coming back for the marvelous food! Best breakfast, lunch and dinners of all time! We truly loved everything and will miss this trip. Thank you to Captain Charles and well done and thank you eleanor for your creativity and talent
Highly Recommended
We came across charter vacations through a friend of ours that took her family on this trip. She said it was a bucket list trip and we had to do it. Since our family doesn’t get to travel often we decided to splurge!
Let me tell you, it was worth every penny! We did not know what to expect at all. The days start with a cup of coffee and relaxation, jumping in the water with the kids, delicious breakfast is served & the morning ended each day with a 1-2 hour sail. These easy mornings are just what we needed. Once we got to our destination we played around a little more and ate lunch, then all the adventure began. Our captain was flexible, our boat was loaded with all the fun water sports and he got them out at our request. He built our itinerary around our needs which were discussed several weeks prior. The crew was great with our kids. We all got to know each other and honestly, it was like hanging out with our good friends.
In the evenings, we took our showers and got to unwind with a nice meal and a glass of wine. By 9:00 each night we were all ready for bed! This trip was the perfect blend of relaxation, fun and adventure. The best part about it was that we did not have to make any decisions other than what we wanted to drink! I highly recommend this bucket list trip and we loved cruising with Captain Charles and Eleanor! If you are looking for something special this is definitely it!
